[ not sure how to feel about that. kara is saving the world, james is ruling the world, and he's still stuck in it? he really has to rethink his life. he's happy for james, sure, and he's sure he's a hell of a lot nicer than ms. grant. but being bossed around by a friend doesn't sound appealing, either. ]

You made a career change, and I'm a reporter now. So while he's still technically my boss, I don't report to him directly.

[ all those other huge changes in their lives, he's taken in stride. but he's been stuck in the same place for so long, that that bit of news is actually the most surprising and jarring of all.

he actually did it? he can't even remember what he used to be like before the fleet, but he doesn't remember that guy too fondly, he seems so weak in retrospect. does that mean he brings the fleet back with him, or does he just grow a pair all over again? ]

Wh-what career change? [ he can't even pretend to be casual about this question; he's eager, excited, happy about it even without knowing where he's going (though really, where could he be going? he wouldn't leave a cushy job in catco for something completely new. it's the deo, isn't it? it's what he's told kate he was thinking about wanting months ago.) ]

J'onn finally recognized what a great asset you'd be for the DEO, so you moved over there.

[ excuse him, he's gonna pump his fist in the air repeatedly while exclaiming quiet happy 'yes!'-es.

as you can see he's absolutely devastated about leaving catco behind.

no, really, he is sad about some aspects of it. he met kara there, working independently with her has been the highlight of his national city life, and there were good benefits. but he can't take being just an it guy anymore. he wants to do more with his life, be more, justify all this faith people keep putting in him. ]

Apparently there's been an above-ground entrance to the DEO this whole time, too, they just neglected to tell us.

Seriously? They've just been trolling us?

[ not that he's even been there that much (once, he's been there once when kara was in a coma.) but kara's been there tons of times! ]

They needed some good teching up in there, outsourcing to an IT guy is just embarrassing. [ shrug. no he can't stop smiling about this. ]

Oh, and James and I thought about dating for like 12 hours but I kept putting it off and it turns out I think we're just better as friends.

So how's reporting going?

It's hard. Like, really hard. My boss is a total steamroller who doesn't appreciate all of the work that I do. But it's also really fulfilling, you know? Getting the scoop, exposing things to the world. I really feel like I can make a difference in there.

I've been thinking it might be. [ he nods. but then a thought occurs to him. ] So, I guess that's it for the Superfriends? [ if they've both gone legit...does that mean james is cut out? ]

Pretty much, that's the short of it. Mon-El is working his way toward it, but he's not quite there yet.

Oh, he's a total cad. But he has glimpses of trying to do the right thing. In between many, many moments of self-absorption.
