There are. I'll pass it along if anything is particularly helpful. But if I'm honest this is the kind of thing I just read for fun anyway. [Even without Project Pluto, though she did try to find one the looked promising.]

Besides, we're actually flying between the stars -- reading up on them feels like a generally good idea.

I like my ideas to be generally good. I did read more about water and oceans when I was in an underwater prison. I guess this follows suit. You know, I don't actually think people should get abducted by mysterious overlords, but when they do it's nice to have a good library.

I like my evil faceless kidnappers with a touch of common courtesy.

I guess I really should have taken the time to attend one of those. I just really hate the name tags. There's never room to write my full evil title. The empress of evil and duchess of destruction...Kitty.

You just need an alias - like 'Ghost' or 'Phase' or - something from the Cat Who Walks Through Walls that I really wish I'd read more recently -

Ooh that's good - though you might want a different one for your evil plots, brand recognition keeps everyone on the same page.

Yeah it's a sci-fi classic - multiverse, time travel, all that good stuff. I read it when I was a kid.

I was Sprite for a hot second, but as much as I wanted people to think the kind of ghost, everyone just thought the pop instead. Not that this strikes much fear into hearts, so probably not the best evil administrator name.

Yeah, no that's...just cute. That sounds like someone who's gonna draw ponies on your wall while you're sleeping.

Maybe -- apparently in some world, Kara's a cartoon. I've been thinking, it's actually really possible that creators are just people who are more receptive to the multiverse and nothing's actually made up. Though, in this case -- the resemblance is mostly in the title, from the bits I remember.

You definitely forgot that. All mind reading abilities should be disclosed to [Yes, Kitty, what? People who kiss each other?] friends upon meeting.

Could be. I was told I was in a comic book once. It was back in the prison and I didn't get many details, but Rogue said the same thing happened with her.

[ watch his eyes light up at the mention of 'comic book' ]

That's so cool - [ he's a little jealous. appearing in a comic book is like achieving nerdvana, ok. ]

Before a reboot? [He's not talking about resetting a timeline, right? Because that's too close to home.]

Yeah, you know, when the plot gets so convoluted and there are so many conflicting story lines they basically make your brain explode so it's easier to just -- wipe the slate clean, start over. It never goes well for the regular people. Actually, being a regular person in comics is generally a bad idea - especially if you're close to the hero. Comic books love their angst.

Well, on the plus side, I am not a comic book character. I am a person. So, there's that. [Even if she is also a comic book character...]

...But there is a lot of angst. Okay, you should probably be nervous. [Don't be nervous.]

Hey... [Now for something totally different that only got brushed upon with looks before and maybe could or should stay that way, but...] Nothing has ever happened with Kirk. I was just being nosy about the Tourist and peeked into his room not knowing it was his room.

[ he wasn't expecting that to come up -- but he's kind of grateful that she brought it up. he's resolved not to bottle things up anymore, but years of instinct are hard to overcome, especially since...they never really talked about what's between them.

[She's about to say something and then the tells her he really likes her and there are feelings and not words. Warm, happy feelings and fear. She's not exactly used to fear and doesn't really know what to do with it except shove it aside and attack, but there's nothing to attack here. The delay is a little too long.]

Well, you're great and smart like I mentioned from the start.

I just didn't want you worrying about something that didn't need to be worried about.

[ it's the sort of silence that in fiction people tend to describe feeling like it lasts hours, decades. it doesn't. it feels like it lasts just long enough to make his heart sink to the pit of his stomach. ]
