Yeah, you know, when the plot gets so convoluted and there are so many conflicting story lines they basically make your brain explode so it's easier to just -- wipe the slate clean, start over. It never goes well for the regular people. Actually, being a regular person in comics is generally a bad idea - especially if you're close to the hero. Comic books love their angst.
And costume designer. They always get the costume designers first. [Just making things up now.]
Hey... [Now for something totally different that only got brushed upon with looks before and maybe could or should stay that way, but...] Nothing has ever happened with Kirk. I was just being nosy about the Tourist and peeked into his room not knowing it was his room.
[ he wasn't expecting that to come up -- but he's kind of grateful that she brought it up. he's resolved not to bottle things up anymore, but years of instinct are hard to overcome, especially since...they never really talked about what's between them.
he nods. ]
Thanks -- for telling me. I just - [ why are feelings so hard to talk about? there needs to be a hack for that. ] have a lot of experience losing out to guys like him. [ he's even called jim, can that not be a trend please? ] And I really like you.
[She's about to say something and then the tells her he really likes her and there are feelings and not words. Warm, happy feelings and fear. She's not exactly used to fear and doesn't really know what to do with it except shove it aside and attack, but there's nothing to attack here. The delay is a little too long.]
Well, you're great and smart like I mentioned from the start.
[Just tell him you like him too.]
I just didn't want you worrying about something that didn't need to be worried about.
[ it's the sort of silence that in fiction people tend to describe feeling like it lasts hours, decades. it doesn't. it feels like it lasts just long enough to make his heart sink to the pit of his stomach. ]
I really appreciate it. [ he goes for a smile; what was it about not bottling things up anymore? ] I worry too much as it is, every little bit helps.
Maybe a little. Less worries. Also, we have a masquerade to go to soon. [She might be a little excited about this, okay? She might also be wanting to show him things she can't say.]
[ he nods as she speaks, her coming to pick him up to spare him a shuttle ride - deeply appreciated! going together - sounds good! packing -- overnight bag? did -- he just hear that right? play it cool, winn, for once in your life can you please play it cool? ]
Yeah! Yes, yeah, that - yeah that's a great plan. [ he may be mumbling 'best plan ever' to himself, how sensitive are these microphones, again? great job playing it cool, bravo. ]
I mean, [ clearing his throat ] yeah, we could - definitely do that. [ maybe the subject isn't as different as all that after all... ]
[She's biting the inside of her lower lip to try and keep from smiling more at his reaction.]
Then we have a plan. A great plan. [As he said. She doesn't repeat the best plan ever, but she totally heard it. There is something else that maybe they should talk about before it gets weird? Normally just waiting until after is fun, but they could at least give this a shot...]
At this dance I do expect you to dance with other people too. And so am I. [Don't think she's missed some of those other uncomfortable looks and awkward questions you've asked even if she didn't bring them up like she did with Jim.] I'm still there with you though.
[ you mean like the uncomfortable look he's really trying to keep down now? it's not that he likes being that way, but somehow his instincts keep taking him back to anxiety.
he smiles despite it, and nods ]
Yeah, I -- told a friend I'd look him up. It's kind of a perfect chance to see people, especially if you've been mostly locked away in an office lately. [ as he's been. not that he minds! working is way more in his comfort zone.
he runs a hand through his hair, trying to figure out how to phrase what he needs to say. ]
Don't worry about me, that's just...Kara calls it 'me being me', [ him being afraid of being replaced, overlooked, abandoned again. it's hard to get the bitter taste of experience out of his mouth, even if kitty's given him nothing but blissful sweetness so far. ] it blows over. The last thing I ever want is to hold you back, especially from your friends. I'm glad that you have them, you're great. Not wanting to be your friend should be marked as one of the first signs of insanity. [ his issues are his to deal with, he doesn't want them inconveniencing anyone else. ]
[She doesn't like those feelings either and while part of her is holding back with him to protect herself, she doesn't want to be making him feel replaceable or abandoned. She was also saying she had no problem with him dancing with Kara.]
It might be a good opportunity for me to introduce you to some people. You're pretty great too. They should get a chance to see you while you're not being a recluse.
[She smiles at him. And she's probably still going to worry when he's being him.]
That's the spirit. [Will it be weird if she's still introducing him as her friend?] So, your costume was kind of a pile of cloth last I saw it. Should I be expecting you to go naked or are you toga-ing it up?
Re: Video
I really, really know. [It will get her into trouble one of these days.
It has already gotten the mun into trouble.]Maybe you're in it with me now.

[ because in that case, he dead. ]

Re: Video
...But there is a lot of angst. Okay, you should probably be nervous. [Don't be nervous.]

[ though the most danger he's been in so far he owes to being the son of a psychopath. ]
I'll risk it.

[ changing the subject is probably the way to go here, before he says something (more) embarrassing. ]
And I'm almost done with your costume, it looks amazing if I may say so myself. And if I may not - won't make it any less true.

And maybe you could pack an overnight bag? [Are you following her?]

It's a pretty long list of people I need to meet - may as well get started on it.

The shoemaker goes barefoot, the costume maker goes boxered.
[ he nods. because who wouldn't want to see that, right! ]
Video
Oooh. Well, okay then. [She doesn't look displeased at the idea even though she's sure he's joking.]
Video
he's a 1000% joking, though a part of him wishes he had the balls to go through with it, just for her reaction.
then again, it's probably not the best-first-impression making outfit if he's meeting her friends. ]
My mask's suited up though - [ he holds it up for her to see. ]
